What is servo motor inertia and why does it matter?
Inertia is an object’s resistance to a change in speed. To determine the inertia of an object, its mass is multiplied by the square of its distance from the axis of rotation.
Motor inertia is given by the manufacturer, while the load inertia is calculated by adding the inertia of all rotating parts, which typically includes the actuator or drive (belt, ball screw, rack and pinion), the external load, and the coupling. For the motor to effectively and efficiently control the load during acceleration and deceleration, the motor and load inertia should, theoretically, be equal.
In general, the higher the compliance, the lower the inertia ratio should be in order for the motor to effectively control the load.

You can select different inertia of servo motors at .
