The piezoelectric effect is the conversion between mechanical energy and electrical energy in certain crystalline and ceramic materials. It enables highly accurate sensing, actuation, and positioning technologies and is fundamental to applications ranging from ultrasound imaging and vibration sensors to semiconductor manufacturing equipment and ultra-precision motion control systems.

The piezoelectric effect is the ability of certain materials to generate an electrical charge when subjected to mechanical stress. Conversely, these materials can also deform or change shape when an electric voltage is applied. This phenomenon occurs in materials whose crystal structures lack a center of symmetry.
