Ultra-Precision Absolute Encoder

The AEAT-7000 is a high speed, high resolution absolute encoder module capable of providing up to 13bits of absolute positioning information. Its small, compact and modular form factor also makes it an ideal choice for space-constrained applications.

The encoder IC consists of an array of photo diodes, including a monitor photo diode channel. The photodetector IC is used together with a codewheel or code disc. The photo diodes are accompanied with precision amplifiers plus additional circuitry. The monitor channel is used to drive a constant current source for the highly collimated IR illumination system.

Avago’s single turn encoders provide unique positional information for each shaft location. This location is independent from all other locations. In an absolute single turn encoders application, there are several tracks with common centers, and single light sources. As the light passes through the slots on the moving tracks, it creates shadows at intervals. Where a shadow is detected, a low state (0) is created. When the light successfully penetrates the slot a high state (1) is created. The position of the shaft is detected by reading the pattern of 1’s and 0’s. For higher resolution single turn encoders, incremental tracks are added. These tracks enable the interpolation of signals.

Avago’s single turn encoders provide high accuracy read-out for applications which require precise positional information. In addition, these single turn encoders’ use of the SSI non-proprietary serial communication protocol means that these single turn encoders can match most applications’ output requirements.
